Il Dabate, utilizzato da tanti anni in molti Paesi europei, rientra tra le metodologie innovative del mondo della didattica in quanto riesce a far acquisire agli alunni molte competenze non solo disciplinari ma, soprattutto, trasversali.
Oltre alla padronanza espressiva di public speaking, il Debate sviluppa il pensiero critico e la competenza di saper ricercare le fonti e documenti valutandone l’affidabilità. Gli effetti si riscontrano anche a livello relazionale e lo studente accresce l’autostima, elemento molto importante soprattutto per quegli alunni che presentano difficoltà di integrazione nel gruppo dei pari. Un fattore spesso sottovalutato è il pensiero metacognitivo che gli alunni potenziano in modo rilevante, anche se non direttamente ed immediatamente verificabile dall’insegnante.
La sperimentazione in atto ha dato la possibilità anche agli alunni che presentavano delle disabilità comportamentali ed intellettive di lieve gravità di partecipare attivamente a tutte le fasi del lavoro. La prova del dibattito, per questi studenti, è stata sentita come una “sfida con sé stessi” riuscendo a trovare una spinta emotiva positiva e costruttiva nei confronti dei lavori successivi, superando spesso le aspettative degli insegnati stessi.
A fronte di queste considerazioni, il Debate è sicuramente una delle metodologie che di diritto dovrebbe entrare in tutte le aule delle scuole secondarie italiane , non solo per le caratteristiche precedentemente illustrate e per il suo ruolo poliedrico ma, principalmente, perché prepara in modo concreto alla vita fuori dalla scuola, al cosiddetto “Oltre la scuola”.
Di seguito un file riassuntivo della prima parte di un progetto biennale sviluppato durante le ore curriculari dove sono state sperimentate più metodologie, la prima tra queste il Debate.
